Concern is growing in Pella and the wider region, as the number of coronavirus cases at the Giannitsa cannery increases steadily.
According to star.gr, cases rose to 191, out of a total of 680 employees, many of them seasonal.
In fact, the workers come from several towns and surrounding prefectures in the area, and many traveled en masse by bus.
Mayor of Pella: The situation got out of control
Speaking on the “Society Hour MEGA” program, Pella Mayor Grigoris Stamkos expressed concern about the high number of coronavirus cases.
“People were not relaxed. They watched the measurements. However, for some reason the numbers slipped away,” he said.
At the same time, as he announced, in three primary schools there is a problem, since four teachers are sick with coronavirus.
“We have to limit the spread.” If we start to question everything, the results will not be the best, “he stressed.
Extraordinary measures
It is recalled that the factory has suspended its operation until September 18, while the prefectures of Pella, Pieria, Imathia and Kilkis were placed under a regime of special restrictive measures, in order to prevent a further spread of the coronavirus.
In particular, the measures include:
- ban on all health shops from 12 midnight to 07:00 the next day,
- suspension of any type of event such as parties, fairs, processions, public markets, etc.,
- Prohibition of any type of meeting of citizens over 9 people for any reason, both in public and in private
- in the dining areas a maximum number of people at each table is allowed up to 4 people, unless they are first degree relatives where up to 6 people are allowed
- Wearing a mask is mandatory both indoors and outdoors.
These measures are valid until Friday 09/25/2020 at 06:00.
