Shoot now: A fire is breaking out in an agroforestry area in the Dafni area in Krokees, Laconia.
At the scene of the fire operate 30 firefighters with nine vehicles and two pedestrian units, while the work of the ground forces assisted by two firefighting aircraft.
Check out the Fire Department tweet:
So as not to cause a fire
- Avoid hot work outdoors, which can cause a fire (oxygen welding, use of a wheel or other tool, which sparks)
- We do not light outdoor grills (barbecue) during the summer months in the woods, or in areas where there is dry grass and branches.
- Avoid smoking bees and do not leave combustion residues in the open air as they can reignite and cause a fire.
- Under no circumstances should we burn dry grass, twigs, reeds and garbage in the open air.
- We never throw lit cigarettes and matches out of the car window, not even when we’re in the woods.
- We do not leave garbage in the forest, because there is a risk of ignition, or glass bottles, because they can cause a fire in the dry grass, due to the radiation of the sun.
- We do not use flares, fireworks, in areas that are within walking distance of forest areas.
- We never park our vehicle in places where there is dry grass. The car’s catalytic converter stays overheated for a long time after the engine is turned off, making the risk of fire visible.
- We take into account that the sparks caused by the exhausts of all types of vehicles can create conditions conducive to fire.
- We always comply with the signs of prohibition of access in the forest, in times of high risk
The actions we must take as soon as we perceive a fire
- Call 199 immediately and provide clear location and exact location information, as well as information on the specific location where you see the fire.
- We describe the type of vegetation that burns
- Determine the direction of the fire.
- We report the intensity and direction of the wind in the area
- Calling this number is free from landlines and mobiles. Also, prepaid phones do not require the insertion of a calling card. If your mobile phone shows “emergency calls” or “no connection”, call 112, which is also an emergency number for the entire European Union. Its use is also free, from all landlines and mobile phones.
