Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reiterated his support for the UN-recognized Libyan government, whose president met behind closed doors.

The Turkish president discussed in Istanbul with the head of the Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (KEE), Fagez al-Saraj, the latest developments in Libya, their bilateral relations and the problems in the region, according to a statement from the presidency.
During the meeting, Erdogan “declared that Turkey will continue to stand in solidarity with the legally recognized UN government in Libya, and reiterated that Turkey’s priority is to restore stability in Libya without delay,” the Turkish presidency said.
Erdogan added that “peace and stability in Libya will be beneficial to its neighbors and to the entire region, starting with Europe” and that “the international community must take a position in this context.”
During their meeting in Istanbul, Erdogan and Saraj also discussed how to strengthen their cooperation and “defend the rights of Turkey and Libya in the eastern Mediterranean,” according to the Turkish presidency.
