In the afternoon, the Coast Guard completed the sailing operation of the sailboat in the port of Paleochora, which had been located in the morning in the “Stomio” area in the southwest of Chania.
According to the first count, 60 migrants were on board the towed boat, including women and children, while 11 migrants, including 3 children, had disembarked in the morning in the “Stomio” area.
The municipality of Kantanos-Selinos provided water, snacks, croissants, children’s clothing and baby items, while a team from the Kandanos Health Center and volunteers from the Red Cross provided first aid.
All passengers on the ship will board the buses, to be transported to the indoor pool area in Akrotiri, Chania, where the necessary set-up work for their stay is underway.
The process of identification and control of immigrants will be carried out based on the strict protocols in force, due to the coronavirus pandemic, while the services of the General Hospital of Chania are on alert to provide any assistance.
