Nikos Hardalias expressed concern about the increase in cases and the number of deaths from coronavirus in nursing homes during the briefing on Covid-19. At the same time, he spoke about the increasing epidemiological burden in Attica.
The Undersecretariat of Civil Protection announced extensive inspections of the elderly care units, with the aim of having all units in the country inspected in the next 10 days.
Rules for employees in nursing homes
In this context, Hardalias recalled the rules that apply to nursing home workers:
- Postponement of staff leave
- Mandatory lab test 48 hours before returning to work
- Avoid travel abroad and social activities.
- Avoid the crowds
- Restriction of access to public meeting places
- Avoid contact with people with symptoms.
In the event that a nursing home employee comes into contact with cases, the following steps apply:
- Home restriction
- Monitoring your health
- Thermometer 2 times a day
- Accommodation in a different room from the rest of the family with good ventilation.
- Restriction of travel outside the home.
- Good ventilation in the private house.
- Immediate information to the person in charge of the structure of care for the elderly
Increase in cases in Attica: “We are far from the blockade”
Nikos Hardalias said that in recent days there has been an increase in cases in Attica, despite restrictive measures being applied. Therefore, the controls for its observance will be increased.
The Undersecretary recalled that in all other areas where the restrictive measures were observed, there was a significant epidemiological spill that eventually led to their removal.
“Maintain the measures so that we don’t have other measures,” he said characteristically.
As he commented, there is no reason to panic, but he noted that “at this moment we are at a very critical turning point.”
“At Attica we monitor the situation every day and, accordingly, we are prepared to suggest or remove the necessary measures from the drawer.”
“We are a long way from a local lockdown,” he said. “One of the many measures is the use of a mask in some municipalities,” he revealed.
Along with Hardalias, Charalambos Gogos also agreed, emphasizing that horizontal measures are necessary to curb the virus.
Responding to a question from a journalist, Mr. Gogos said that the best way to reduce the pandemic is to follow current measures, recalling the phrase of Sotiris Tsiodras that the mask should become our “personal confinement”.
According to EODY data, in the last 24 hours Attica continues to be “champion” as 86 new cases were registered.
Test for all new recruits
Finally, the Undersecretary of Civil Protection indicated that the 8,450 recruits who appear in September will be reviewed to detect the new coronavirus.
