Hours earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a teleconference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan about events in the eastern Mediterranean.

According to Anadolu Agency, the two leaders discussed regional and bilateral issues, as well as developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.
