A message of de-escalation of the tension in Greek-Turkish relations was addressed by the head of US diplomacy, Mike Pompeo, emphasizing the need to initiate diplomatic talks.

In particular, the US secretary of state said in a statement during a press conference that “we urge all parties to step back, reduce tensions and initiate diplomatic talks” on security and energy issues in the eastern Mediterranean.

To conclude, he added that “the increase in military tensions in the region is not beneficial.”

It should be noted, however, that Mike Pompeo’s intervention comes shortly after the new condemnation of the Turkish investigations in the Eastern Mediterranean, which was carried out yesterday afternoon by the State Department, which highlighted that the movements of Ankara is increasing tensions and destabilizing the region.

The US Secretary of State also called for a reduction in tension, noting that there can be no dialogue through a show of force.

Finally, on August 10, the State Department issued a statement calling on Ankara to immediately suspend Oruc Reis’s investigation and seismic operations in the region. Responding to a relevant question, the representative of the US State Department had described the specific actions as provocative, saying they increase tensions in the region.
