Today, for the first time, one of the Thessaloniki Metro trains moved on the rails of Pylaia station, passing a few hundred meters on the line.

The train, with a total length of 60 meters, made up of four wagons each 15 meters long, traveled at a maximum speed of 7 kilometers on the test track (normally, in the tunnel, it will reach 80 km / h ), taking your first ride with a passenger. public, since until now most of the executives of the construction company had approached it in motion.

The first passengers on the train were the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Costas Karamanlis, the Secretary General, George Karagiannis, the management of ATTICA METRO SA and the executives of the wagon manufacturer, Hitachi. So far, Hitachi has delivered nine trains to ATTICA METRO, while the next delivery is scheduled for September 16, which means that by mid-month more than half of the trains will be in Thessaloniki (18 in total will be in the main line). .

Furthermore, “by the end of 2020 we estimate that we will have announced the tender for 15 trains in the Kalamaria extension,” clarified Mr. Tachiaos, adding that the trains arrive in Greece in two parts and are assembled on site. After the assembly of the driverless trains, the so-called SAT (Stand Alone Tests) tests are carried out, the objective of which is to check the functionality of the wagons themselves (for example, if they start smoothly or if the doors open and close correctly) , a trial period with driver is followed and then the software goes from driver mode (with driver) to driverless mode, which – as the minister pointed out by the representative of Hitachi, Domenico Fontinguera – eliminates the possibility of human error in the movement of the subway.
