Swedish authorities remove three children between the ages of 10 and 17 from their family after their parents detained them locked up at home for four months because they were “terrified” by the coronavirus pandemic, their lawyer announced today.
March to early July “The children and the family could not leave the apartment (…) the parents were completely terrified by the pandemic,” said Michael Svegfors, a children’s attorney.
According to a decision of the Yonkoping city court, where the events took place, the children were kept locked in their rooms and they couldn’t even move inside the apartment.
Also the outside door of the house it was closed “with nails”, so that no one can leave, something that parents deny through their lawyer.
Contrary to the blockade adopted by most European countries, Sweden did not impose restrictive measures on residents and kept schools open for children under 16, urging citizens to “take responsibility”.
The parents, Svegfors explained, come from “another country” and do not speak Swedish well.
“They continued to follow the news from their homeland via the Internet,” he added. In this country, which is not mentioned, strict restrictive measures were imposed due to coronavirus.
