Skourletis is leaving, Tzanakopoulos is coming

Intense fermentations and rearrangements in the front rows of SYRIZA, in Alexis Tsipras’ effort to signal a new beginning.

Yesterday, at the “Morning Coffee”, the SYRIZA president announced his decision to appoint Dimitris Tzanakopoulos as the new party secretary, replacing Panos Skourletis. The latter will assume the position of Parliamentary Representative.

The choice was doubly imperative. SYRIZA lost the elections and some responsibilities were attributed to the Party Secretary, rightly or wrongly, and by non-partisan journalists. She was accused of not sufficiently mobilizing the party mechanism (which never had considerable potential). In any case, in those positions there is always a political responsibility for failure.

The second reason was the fact that Skourletis, as a former party member, along with Voutsis and Phillies, in osmosis and with the “53”, were a bag of “disobedience”, if not resistance, in Tsipras’ attempt to convert SYRIZA into a copy. of the old PASOK. As secretary, Skourletis had considerable internal party power, from which he was weakened as he assumed his new capacity as the party’s parliamentary representative (on the other hand, this position gives him greater recognition).

Therefore, Tsipras in the person of Tzanakopoulos, it is estimated that she will have a man who will adhere without problems to the changes she seeks.

There will also be changes in the Press Office. Alexis Haritsis was considered successful (he was a man without tensions, after all), and was removed of his own free will, to assume the position of head of department in a productive ministry.

His replacement has yet to be found. Alabama. Tsipras would like Nasos Iliopoulos, head of the SYRIZA municipal faction in the municipality of Athens, to be the press officer. Iliopoulos, a noble and discreet executive, has not yet accepted because he wants to remain in his functions in the Municipality. At the same time, the possibility of having a deputy for contacts with the foreign press is being examined and the name of the former Deputy Minister of Information, Lefteris Kretsos, is heard for the position.

As for the much discussed face of the “Store” and friend of Mr. Tsipras, Nikos Pappas, it seems, according to the information at the time, that he is still the head of the sector but in another sector, inferior to that of the Economy.

Tsipras also proposed the postponement of the conference for now, due to the coronavirus problem (logically, it is about the gathering of 4-5 thousand people in one place). The digital conference or something in between with the physical presence of some delegates and some through the Internet, which could be one of the solutions, is not moving forward at the moment since “53” and other party members are opposed.

Today, the PG of SYRIZA, tomorrow the Political Council and possibly over the weekend the Central Committee, which is expected to approve the Tsipras proposal.
