Condolences to Mitsotakis and ND on the death of Nikos Gelestathis

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis described the late former ND MP and minister for several years, Nikos Gelestathis, as an educated figure and emphasized that he deserves all the honors.

In his statement of condolence for the loss of Nikos Gelestathis, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasizes:

“Political life says goodbye, today, to a noble figure and the New Democracy is a historical figure. For decades, Nikos Gelestathis served his country ethically and consistently as a deputy and minister. That is why he deserves all the honors. Personally, I was lucky to know him from my first steps. And his wise advice will always accompany me. My condolences to his family. “

He offered himself to the party and to the place

“We express our deep regret for the loss of Nikos Gelestathis, deputy, minister and chief executive of our party for several years,” New Democracy said in a statement of condolence for the loss of former minister and eight consecutive elected deputies Nikos Gelestathis.

“Nikos Gelestathis belonged to a generation that had set itself the maximum duty of service to the place and offering to the nation” pointed out the New Democracy and added:

“He studied law at the University of Athens. Throughout his life he worked hard for his beloved Fokida and her people. His compatriots returned this love and elected him eight times a Fokida deputy for the New Democracy, from 1981 to 2000.”

New Democracy also pointed out that during the New Democracy government, in ’90 -’93, Nikos Gelestathis offered himself to the country from the position of Minister of Transport and Communications (1990-1992) and Public Order (1992-1993) and ended :

“Nikos Gelestathis served New Democracy with passion and offered a lot in very difficult years for our party. We express our deepest condolences to his family and especially to his daughter Ioanna.”

He was elected Member of Parliament 8 times

Nikos Gelestathis was born in 1930 in Desfina, Fokida and studied law at the University of Athens.

He was elected Member of Parliament for Fokida with New Democracy in 1981, 1985, 1989 (June and November), 1990, 1993, 1996 and 2000.

He served as Minister of Transport and Communications (1990-1992) and Minister of Public Order (1992-1993) in the Mitsotakis government.
