The sad news was confirmed in an obituary published yesterday in The Houston Chronicle. “Maria died in Houston on Monday morning, May 4, 2020, of a sudden cardiac aneurysm,” he wrote. “He was born in 1988 to Prince and Princess Peter Galitzin in Luxembourg City, in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.”
The princess moved to Russia with her family, where she attended the German Moscow School until she graduated. Later he moved to Belgium, where he attended the School’s Faculty of Art and Design. He then lived and worked in Brussels, Chicago and Houston, where he specialized in interior and furniture design.
In 2017, she married Risi Rupp, chef at the Derek Hotel in Houston, at her parents’ home, and then gave birth to their son, Maxim.
Speaking to the Houston Chronicle shortly after her wedding in February 2018, Tatiana said her parents never disclosed her royal status, but they always knew what it meant to be a member of a royal family. “My life is completely normal unless we are invited to royal weddings. My post office sometimes says ‘Princess Tatiana’. The weird thing was when I went from ‘princess’ to ‘lady’. I have been a princess all my life,” said.
