An alarm has been issued both in Larissa and in structures in Xanthi, Malakasa and Lesbos, where new cases of coronavirus have been recorded.
Specifically, 16 new cases were announced today, 5/13, while the total is 2,760. Of these 16 cases, 10 stem from the Nea Smyrni Roma settlement in Larissa and the structures in Xanthi and Malakasa. The Malakasa incidents took place in late April, but were officially announced today.
Authorities have launched a giant tracking operation called “Day 0-7-14”. “Day 0” is today, during which 600 tests were conducted. During “day 7” there will be a new sampling, while on “day 14” the dispersion will be monitored.
17 EODY teams rushed to the areas where the new cases occurred to conduct mass testing.
The resurgence of the virus in the Nea Smyrni settlement appears to have been caused by a Roma funeral, where the measures were not observed. So far, a total of 17 cases have been reported in Larissa. Of the 17, 6 are now, with the youngest, that of a 48-year-old family member, all of whom tested positive.
A total of 652 samples were collected in one day in Larissa and transported to Athens to EODY for examination. The samples have been taken in this way, since in addition to the person’s name, the address is also indicated, so that their mapping can be verified.
At the same time, 2 more cases were registered in the immigrant quarantine structure at Megala Therma in Lesbos. Follow-up has started on all of your contacts.
The first 4 tests of the port and the drivers who transported the migrants to the structure were negative.
