The Israel Biological Research Institute (IIBR) has completed an innovative scientific study, identifying an antibody that neutralizes the coronavirus, according to the country’s defense ministry.

meI am proud of the Institute staff, who have made an important discovery.“Defense Minister Naftali Bennett said Monday after visiting his Ness Ziona-based laboratory, the Jerusalem Post reported.

IIBR is now working to secure the patent and ensure its commercial development, while all legal procedures are reported to be coordinated with the Ministry of Defense. “This scientific achievement has the potential to be a breakthrough in the treatment of patients with coronavirus and is not a vaccine for widespread use.”, added to the declaration.

Last month, IIBR announced that it had begun testing a test vaccine for COVID-19 in rodents. Meanwhile, the IIBR and the city of Yeroham announced last Monday that they plan to open Israel’s first vaccine plant in collaboration with some of the international pharmaceutical companies, according to a spokesman for local authorities.

A total of 16,506 cases and 258 coronavirus deaths have been reported in Israel, according to Worldometer. At the same time, 11,843 people have recovered, while active cases are 4,405. Laboratory tests in the country amount to 53,902 per 1 million inhabitants. On average, Israel has recorded 30 deaths and 1,907 cases per million inhabitants.
