Civil Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis described the incident in Kypseli as a “cheating trap.” Referring to Saturday’s events in Agios Georgios Square, she said that the police would not have gone to Kypseli if the false call from the citizen who had asked for help had not preceded her.

The minister emphasized that the police attack proved that there was an established trap.

When asked about allegations of police violence, Chrysochoidis said everything was being monitored and that the Ombudsman would be called to end the investigation quickly.

The police have no reason to be in the squares, the minister added, stressing that if necessary, the police make recommendations from the speakers.

Mr. Chrysochoidis emphasized that it was “very healthy” that anyone wanted to go to the plaza or on the beach, but that they should keep their distance, adding that it was not a government order, but a global one.
