OR Stratos Dionysiou He was born on November 8, 1935 in Nigrita, Serres, to parents of Asian refugees. From a young age he went out to fight and in 1947 he settled in Thessaloniki. He worked as a street vendor, worker, and tailor before embarking on the song. His first professional appearance took place at the “Farinda” center in Thessaloniki, where he caused a sensation with his rich and full voice, with his characteristic and wonderful hoarseness. There he met his life partner Georgia Laveni, with whom he climbed the church steps in 1955. The couple had four children, Angelos, Stelios and Diamantis, who followed in their father’s footsteps.
In the late 1950s, he decided to take the big step and go down to Athens, like many other artists from Thessaloniki. Initially he collaborated with Kaiti Gray and in 1959 he appeared on the discography with the song by Stavros Hatzidakis and Christos Kolokotronis “I am not guilty”. People started to meet him, and record companies soon discovered him. He signs a contract with “Columbia” and makes his first hits: “Nobody hurt me” (interpretation of an Indian song), “In My Love the Disc” or “Electrophone” (music and lyrics by Babi Bakali), “Go away” (Stratou Attalidis / Costa Virvou) and others.
