Summer 2014. One strange case banking related box office from his branch Thessaloniki National Bank See the light of day. The clients, one after another, discover that they have lost what they had placed in their lockers and are filing lawsuits against Thessaloniki’s security. Most of them own old cabinets containing jewelry and other valuables, while among them are retirees who had even put money from their lump sum, for fear of a “haircut” from deposits due to the crisis. .

The case initially moved by a retired dentist, who in his lawsuit stated that he lost items worth more than 150,000 euros. The latter was one of the oldest owners of a box office at the branch and the first to address security and then justice, even complaining about the security measures of the lockers at this branch.

In fact, another plaintiff, in the discussion of the lawsuit filed against the Bank, presented a series of photos representing his friends who managed to enter the locker room without being disturbed, despite the alleged prohibitions, while even presenting the key to his locker, although technically this cannot be done since the only key is in the hands of the Bank.

The corruption prosecutor was prosecuted for embezzlement by an agent and, in fact, with the aggravating provisions on public abusers against six employees, aged 61 to 64, who had duties related to the storage of lockers, in the period of 1999 to 2016. The case was referred to the corruption investigator last January, but in June 2018 closed as it ruled that there were no indications of guilt of the 6 bank employees despite the accusation against them for embezzlement of valuable items worth 2.67 million euros.

Eighty-year-old heir without property

Today, another elderly woman affirms through her lawyer Antonis Xylourgidis that she was also a victim of this strange story. More specifically, the 80-year-old woman and her brother were the only heirs to her mother, who passed away in early 2000.

As for her family’s property, the woman knew from her grandmother and mother that they had gold deposits at the branch of the National Bank of Greece in Would see Imathia The property also included gold bars that were transported from Egypt in the 1940s to the main branch of the National Bank of Thessaloniki on Venizelou Street.

The 2010 He discovered in his mother’s documents, among other things, a brochure from the National Bank, which had been published on the occasion of the transfer of gold from Egypt to Greece in return, thus charging the interest on his grandmother’s and his gold reserves. mother. This was also the result of the will of her grandmother, who left all her movable and immovable property “to her only daughter,” that is, to the victim’s mother.

Trying to find an end in terms of ownership, the 80-year-old woman turned to the national branch in Veria in 2012 to find out where her relatives’ properties were located. There he handed over the documents they asked him to investigate, telling him that they were waiting for answers from headquarters.

Then they informed him that he had received a registered letter from Athens and when he went to the Veria branch, the chief opened the file, took out some documents from inside and handed him the letter. On 03-03-2015, the National Bank responded negatively by writing that: “This is provided in exchange for the letter with AP 14171 / 06.18.2012 that we ask you to consider as not received, as it was inadvertently granted”

Then the woman contacted a lawyer, whom she met at her home in the presence of a friend who wanted to help her find the end of this strange tangle.

After giving the lawyer a photocopy of the brochure and all the legal documents proving that he is a legal heir, the lawyer told him that a high-ranking official of the National Bank was known at the specific branch of Thessaloniki and that they would soon have a answer. In fact. After a few days, he contacted her, enthusiastically saying, “Mrs A., I found you just as you explained with the brochure, call Cyprus and tell your brother to be happy!”

However, a few days later, the same man called her again and said that she had decided not to deal with her case.

Soon after, the woman, again accompanied by her friend, turned to another lawyer. The three met, and after the 80-year-old man explained what the situation was like, the lawyer called an acquaintance on the phone, as he said, who works at the National Bank branch in Venizelou with Eleftherias Square.

She replied that the brochures for the years up to 1942 belonged to the Ethniki flagship store, that is, where she works, and that within a few days she would have an answer. A few days later, the woman called the lawyer again, who told her that they had found everything and that the director was waiting for the certified documents so that the whole process could continue.

However, when the 80-year-old man went to the bank with the certified documents, the deputy director refused to accept them. After informing his lawyer, he said that they would file a lawsuit against the National Bank in Athens. However, no action was ever taken and, a little later, the same man advised the 80-year-old woman not to continue searching and that it was good to reconcile with the idea that she had once been a wealthy heiress.

It is worth noting that, according to her, the last name of her relative has been found in the bank’s file, but with a different name, a fact that she herself does not accept as a possibility. While, among other things, along with the gold bars, as the 80-year-old woman claims, there was a gold watch, a gold chain, and a blue monolithic ring.

As Antonis Xylourgidis’ lawyer points out at protothema.gr: My client affirms that the case of the gold deposits in the National Bank is the summary of the property of his family that he inherited from his mother and grandmother. In addition, the National Bank brochure in its possession indicates the details of its relative and Inside, gold deposits have been recorded since 1939 and interest rates have been recorded since then. Due to the seriousness of the case, my director addressed the Police, giving a statement about everything he knows, while I am convinced that we will soon have news about this strange case.».
