Within the next week, the Home Office will present to Parliament regulations for the facilities that will be given to catering merchants to expand the space in which they use their table seats.
Interior Minister Takis Theodorikakos clarified the issue in Star’s main bulletin.
The regulations, which were jointly drafted by the Interior and Development Ministries and have the consent of KEDE, will be included in the ratification of a Legislative Content Law, most likely on Wednesday.
As Mr. Theodorikakos clarified with the regulation, restaurants will be able to double the space they have to date to cover part of their lost capacity. This will be done without paying additional fees to the municipalities. As the Minister of the Interior explained, in cases where there is no room for expansion, the suggestion made by legislative intervention is to reduce municipal taxes by up to 50%.
In the regulation there is a provision in some cases, either for a few hours or for the whole day, to be able to walk through the municipalities, in any case, provided that a space of at least 1.80 m is cleared for pedestrians and permanent residents and do not disturb or close the passages to people with special needs.
According to the SKAI report, the government is expected to make official decisions about whether to open a week earlier (so far, the monthly milestone is June 1) from May 18 to 20, always in consultation with the Ministry’s scientific team. of Health and Sotiris Tsiodras.
Restaurant and cafe owners are also waiting for decisions on whether to reduce VAT. For cafes, it is discussed to reduce the rate from 24% to 13%, while for catering from 13% to 11-12%. However, there are serious objections from the institutions to the issue of restoration.
Requests have also been made to reduce the VAT rate for hotel accommodation. In particular, there is a scenario for a VAT reduction from 13% to 6%, while the abolition of the residence tax has also been mentioned.
Regarding the use of telework, the Minister of the Interior said that this possibility will continue to exist. “It just came to our attention then. We are in no rush to do it because we want to study the best solutions. We have gained significant experience, but we must also take into account the experience of other countries, as well as a very serious study by our ministry. Telecommuting is here to stay, but it will be implemented in the best way and without affecting the possibilities and results of work of employees in the public sector and, in general, the possibilities of the potential of the public sector, “said Mr. Theodorikakos.
