Quarantine protests in major Swiss cities | People

Hundreds of people protested in front of the Swiss parliament in Bern on Saturday, as well as in other major cities, protesting the authorities’ restrictions to deal with the pandemic, according to the Keystone-ATS news agency.

Switzerland, where the deaths exceeded 1,500 and the infections of 30,000, began to lift the quarantine measures two weeks ago, which allowed the reopening of hairdressers and florists. Starting Monday, schools, restaurants, museums and libraries will also be open, provided certain measures are followed.

Protesters say the current restrictions violate their fundamental rights and have angered police officers who have been deployed outside of parliament. Some carried banners with the slogan “without quarantine, Sweden is doing as well as Switzerland.”

Around 100-200 people participated in a similar demonstration in Zurich and about 80 people took to the streets of St. Gal.

Switzerland imposed the quarantine in mid-March, closing schools and all non-essential stores. Theoretically, meetings of more than 5 people are also prohibited.
