Marfin events through photos and videos

It’s been 10 years and 4 days since the sad events at Marfin Bank on Stadiou Street. Three bank employees died in the fire. Among them is an unborn child.

The Marfin tragedy occurred on May 5, 2010, when during a protest against the financial measures for the signing of the loan agreement, a group of strangers threw Molotov cocktails at the bank while some 25-30 workers were inside.

Most managed to escape, five were rescued by the Fire Department, but three died from suffocation due to toxic fumes and thick smoke.

The identities of the perpetrators of the attack have not been confirmed to date. In memory of the victims of the tragedy, Angeliki Papathanassopoulou (32 years – 4 months pregnant), Epamineondas Tsakalis (36 years) and Paraskevi Zoulia (35 years) today, at 12:00 noon, a plaque will be placed on the site. where our three fellow citizens, employees of Marfin, were killed on the initiative of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and in the presence of the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and political leaders of the opposition parties.

Previously, SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras will place wreaths at the site at 9:30 am and will be followed by KKE Secretary General Dimitris Koutsoumbas at 10:30 am.
