A Belgian court today sentenced an 89-year-old woman to 10 years in prison for stabbing to death her 93-year-old best friend, who had designated her as the heir to most of her estate.
Clara Maes, 84, at the time of the tragic events of 2015, denied having committed the crime during the investigation and trial, which took place this week in the Arlon Court, in the southern area of Belgium.
A jury found the defendant guilty, condemning her to 10 years in prison, but she was not taken to prison, according to the APE-MPE.

The investigation showed that she had been visited early in the morning by an old friend of Clara’s, who every day suggested that she bring him bread or wash the dishes, the Belgian news agency reports.
Clara Maes was the last person to see Thimbo alive. She became his main suspect murder when investigators revealed that there had been no robbery at the victim’s home and that she herself had inconsistencies in her testimony, particularly in relation to a change of clothes on January 3.
Traces of the victim’s DNA were also found in Clara Maes’s vehicle.
During the hearing, witnesses explained that the relationship between the two friends deteriorated due to Clara’s intense character and her involvement in Susan’s life.

Thimbo, a childless widow, had named Clara Maes heir to 70% of her estate and a premium to the remaining 30%. The defendant had received a loan of almost 300,000 euros from the victim.
