US Elections – RESULTS: Tons of ink spilled on the Trump administration, mostly against him. He was accused by many media both inside and outside Greece, but also by a large part of the Greek political spectrum.
Of course, those who publicly accused him changed their minds when they got to know him up close. One of the burning questions that concerns the political world, But also public opinion is what exactly will happen if Donald Trump is finally re-elected to the post of President of the United States and how will such an event affect Greece?
Those who know people and things do not respond directly, but instead oppose the argument that if Biden comes out, “Greece will be saved by the Turks.”
Of course, such a thing does not come out of nowhere. By contrast, Donald Trump, who has a close friendship with Erdogan, has so far shown that he maintains the balance and does not give the Turkish president the green light for any provocative action. Trump is a “market” man and he knows very well how to play the game of diplomatic balances, while during his tenure he learned things he did not know, especially on the geostrategic chessboard.
It is true that despite the outbursts and impulses in his behavior, he has kept his global relationships in good shape. both Russia and North Korea, but also with China despite the fact that it is in a peculiar cold war with the latter.
On the other hand, those who believe that their “sympathy” for Erdogan’s face will lead him to leave the Mediterranean at the mercy of the sultan, rather they are bitterly mistaken.
No American president would be so surprised, least of all Trump, that he knows very well what the interests of his country are that defends as much as anyone else.
We remind you that when Erdogan was derailed, on August 26, 2020, Trump called Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the next day Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to calm things down regarding the continued violations by the Turks in the Aegean and then reported back to Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the progress of the discussion.
Both Greece and Turkey are NATO allies and the American president was quick to preserve this in full.
Donald Trump received Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the White House on January 7, 2020 and there they talked so much about buying new military equipment, which will make Greece even stronger militarily in the Mediterranean, as well as for Turkish challenges, while Kyriakos Mitsotakis had the opportunity to meet with entrepreneurs who want to invest in Greece.
The day before the meeting at the White House, Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the director of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva.
In September 2019, the new Greek-American Defense Agreement was concluded, with which the Souda base will not only continue its operation, but also received the green light for its expansion.
At the same time, there will be a new American base in the port of Alexandroupolis – work has already begun – which will be used by the US Navy.
The port of Alexandroupolis is the most central point of the Balkans. In fact, with the help of the US military and specialists, the seabed of the port was cleared of old shipwrecks, so that be prepared to accept US Navy ships.
On October 17, 2017, he met with the then Prime Minister of Greece and current President of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, in Washington, encouraging the economic reforms that had begun then, even though the SYRIZA government at the time was playing on various boards with both the Russians and the Chinese.
We also recall that Trump had stated about Tsipras: “The Greek Prime Minister is a special person who has achieved something really special. Greece is the cradle of European culture. The United States admires this extraordinary heritage in awe. We have a common commitment to cooperation and freedom. “We have completed an extremely fruitful and constructive meeting on trade defense energy issues.”
Without a doubt, Donald Trump is one of the American Presidents who respects and honors both our National Anniversaries and participates in the events that are held for them in the United States, as well as our religious traditions. The Trump administration so far, has shown that the current US Government is a stable strategic ally of our country, given the political and economic challenges and the various types of asymmetric threats that have emerged. The American president intervenes even silently, when necessary.
The political impeachment of Trump is the only one that can stand in the way of Erdogan’s appetites for the Aegean, and many agree on that.
