He fought with the crown for fifteen days at Evangelismos and with the loneliness of isolation at home for another twenty. The professor of Health Economics and Social Policy at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Ioannis Yfantopoulos, talks to MEGA about the serious adventure of his health from which he managed to emerge victorious.
“There is a perception that this does not concern me, it will not happen to me, it will happen to others and here is the unbridled selfishness that we will have to combat during the period of the coronavirus.”
As he described in an interview with the newspaper “TA NEA”, he distinguishes his experience in three stages.
“The first phase refers to ignorance, I would say, where our knowledge of the coronavirus is very limited. The second stage is hospital care when I had to be hospitalized because I was diagnosed positive for coronavirus. The big surprise was when, being transported to the room, I suddenly saw covid19 attention at the door of the room and I also realized that I am one of the high-risk patients ”.
Inside the pavilion, emotions raced and his only consolation was looking at the church of Agios Isidoros in Lycabettus.
“The nightmare was when you looked, when you looked outside and you saw the hearses and coffins coming out of the hospital.”
The third and final stage followed discharge from the hospital and welcome home. “The food arrived at the door of the room and through the breaths and inhalations that I took I tried to take care of my health.”
This painful experience that you have lived is a thing of the past, but do not forget how ruthless the coronavirus is, highlighting the importance of prevention and discipline in the instructions of the experts.
