Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has commented on the rumors of a trade for national player Julian Brandt.
“I read that too. I can’t say more about it. Nobody answered, there is nothing on the table,” said the BVB coach at the press conference prior to the Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg when asked about the England media reports. Arsenal FC are intensely facing a bet from Brandt.
“We don’t have big plans right now,” Zorc added, referring to the transfer window that has been open since Saturday. “But my years of activity have taught me that I do not rule out anything at the beginning of the transfer period.”
Zorc also spoke about the lack of coherence of BVB in the first half of 2020/2021: “We had a downward dynamic in December, especially in home games. Therefore, we changed coaches because the team needed new input. We are confident that we will achieve our main goal of qualifying for the Champions League. “
BVB: Zorc expects FC Schalke 04 to stay up
Heading into the battle for relegation in the Bundesliga, Zorc hopes his archrival FC Schalke 04 will remain in position. “We have our own problems, on a field somewhat higher than Schalke. Basically, I would like Schalke to keep class. The neighbors are good for everyone. We wish that for next year as well,” said the 58-year-old.
Coach Edin Terzic awaits the return of the recovered Erling Haaland against the formally strong VfL. “Erling is known to be always hungry. So we still have to be careful, slow him down a bit. But he makes a very good impression,” said the BVB coach.
Haaland is “extremely important” to his team, Terzic added, but: “Borussia Dortmund is not just Erling Haaland.”
sport.de has put together the most important statements from BVB-PK with coach Edin Terzic and sports director Michael Zorc:
+++ Edin Terzic on the busy schedule +++
We do not have English weeks with more regeneration phases. However, all upcoming opponents are on an equal footing. It’s going to be very intense for us. We have to achieve automatisms in our game and take out our strengths on the field.
+++ Michael Zorc on the possible relegation of FC Schalke 04 +++
We have our own problems, at levels somewhat higher than Schalke. Basically I would like Schalke to keep the class. The traditional competition in the neighborhood is good for everyone. We wish that also for next year.
+++ Edin Terzic on Loan Player Reinier +++
It wasn’t an easy year for Reinier either because of Corona. He has changed clubs and even countries twice in the last twelve months. He is not the first Brazilian to take time to adjust. But he’s on the right track and he’s a hard worker. We are in a good mood because this will soon be reflected in his performance.
+++ Edin Terzic on the short winter break +++
The break was very, very short. We try to find a combination of tactical and athletic factors. We have worked on some things that were not going well recently. We handle it very well.
+++ Edin Terzic on weak players like Brandt and Sancho +++
We will try to improve things again through a lot of conversation and a lot of training work. That is our task.
+++ Michael Zorc on the trade rumors about Julian Brandt +++
I read that too. I can’t say more about that. No one answered, there is nothing on the table. We don’t have any big plans at the moment. However, my years of activity have taught me that at the beginning of the transfer period I do not rule out anything.
+++ Edin Terzic on the few fouls of BVB +++
We definitely have to be more aggressive, stop the counterattack earlier without attacking the opponent at the knee. But it’s also about “nice fouls,” if you want to call it that.
+++ Edin Terzic on the road against Wolfsburg +++
We have to respect the quality and strength of the opponent, but not accept it. We don’t have to be afraid, bring our own forces to the field and become dangerous.
+++ Edin Terzic over VfL Wolfsburg +++
Wolfsburg has been doing very well for some time. The squad is very good, almost all positions are filled twice. They are very, very stable, they have a good pace on the outside and a very good striker at Wout Weghorst. This is reflected in the results.
+++ Michael Zorc on lack of consistency at BVB +++
We had a downward momentum in December, especially in home games. So we changed coaches because the team needed new input. We are confident that we will achieve our main goal of qualifying for the Champions League.
+++ Michael Zorc in the balance of the first half of the year +++
We are clearly behind in the Bundesliga with fifth place. Fifth place is not our claim. We also remind players of their own demands.
+++ Edin Terzic on the approaches in the new year +++
We have to develop a new force at home and significantly reduce our losses and goals. We have to radiate more goal danger, use our ball possession more effectively.
+++ Edin Terzic on the lack of “hunger” and the role of Haaland +++
All teams in the world depend on the player who has the last contact with the ball in front of the goal. Erling is extremely important to us, and not just because of its goals. It was missing, of course, but we tried to make up for it. Borussia Dortmund is not just Erling Haaland.
+++ Edin Terzic on Erling Haaland +++
Erling is known to be always hungry. So we still have to be careful, slow it down a bit. But it makes a very good impression.
+++ Edin Terzic on the staff situation +++
Youssoufa Moukoko will be out against Wolfsburg, as will Thorgan Hazard, who will be out longer. It will also take Marcel Schmelzer a while. For Jude Bellingham, too, time for the Wolfsburg game is running out.
+++ Terzic and Zorc take their place on the podium alongside media director Sascha Fligge +++
The BVB PK begins with good wishes for the new year for all journalists.
+++ Is a bitter bankruptcy against Union still in mind at BVB? +++
For Borussia Dortmund, things are not going well after the removal of Lucien Favre. A grueling 2-1 win against Werder Bremen was followed by a 2-1 loss at Union Berlin on Matchday 13.
Three points are urgently needed against VfL Wolfsburg in order not to lose the connection to the top. But in home games at the empty Signal Iduna Park, the hosts didn’t always look good recently. Will the liberation strike against Oliver Glasner’s troops be successful?
+++ questions about BVB staff +++
Who is Edin Terzic betting on against fourth place in the table? Star forward Erling Haaland is likely to return. Can the BVB coach give more details? Who forms the defense network? There are still many open questions.
