In the end, it was not enough for Alex Vinatzer to win the first World Cup. Despite the halftime lead, the slalom specialist from Val Gardena de Alta Badia has to say goodbye without a podium. The victory went to Switzerland.

Ramon Zenhäusern, in eighth position after race 1, won the Great Laughter slalom. The tall Swiss was the only one of the top athletes who didn’t have too much trouble with the slope in the second race. Otherwise, neither Alexis Pinturault (11th), Henrik Kristoffersen (6th) nor Daniel Yule (7th) managed to maintain their positions. Zenhäuser is the successor to Marcel Hirscher, who won the last slalom in Alta Badia in 2011.

Vinatzer 7 hundredths left

Alex Vinatzer was also troubled by the soft Big Laughter. Because the Wolkensteiner made a small mistake on the first steep incline, the podium did not work out in the end. Instead, Vinatzer fell back to fourth place, 7-hundredths of a second behind third-placed Marco Schwarz. Manuel Feller stood between the Zen and the Austrian houses.

After finishing 2nd in Alta Badia, North Tyrol spoke with tears in their eyes of “satisfaction”. Feller has had a hard time with many broken injuries and constant back problems. Manfred Mölgg and Simon Maurberger have not had easy times either. The career-qualifying Enneberger back after a torn cruciate ligament and Corona in 19th position, Maurberger (28th) also scored some points at the World Cup.

Slalom runners will have their next opportunity on Tuesday. At Madonna di Campiglio, the traditional night slalom is on the program.
