In Lauenburg (district of the Duchy of Lauenburg), a 37-year-old man was seriously injured: he had to go to hospital because a firecracker exploded in his hand.

In the period from 6 pm to 6 am, the Hamburg fire brigade went out in 89 reported fires. Most were small fires, like burning garbage cans.

But there were also two major fires: in the Winterhude district, a Christmas tree set fire to an apartment; two people were injured. In the Sasel district, the fire department had to put out a burning electrical distribution box in a basement; there were no injuries. Firefighters’ rescue service was on duty 339 times: “Fortunately, as it stands, there have been no significant or noteworthy emergency operations related to the use of New Year’s Eve fireworks,” the fire department said. .
