In the fight against the second crown wave, Italy is betting on a new strategy with three risk zones and more restrictions on the freedom of movement of citizens. As Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced in Rome on Monday, all the country’s museums and exhibitions must also close. The center-left government is planning an upper limit on public transport so that only half of the seats can be occupied. Night-out restrictions are also planned, Conte announced in parliament, without giving any hours.
In Rome, the corresponding decree was expected to be ready by Tuesday. Conte did not initially name any specific locations for which special rules might apply. Until the end, there was a tug of war between the government and the heads of the 20 regions. In advance, there had been talk of possible blockades in Corona access points such as Milan, Naples and Genoa, as well as in heavily affected regions such as Lombardy.
In the spring, the country had issued a strict and prolonged blockade. In summer, the numbers were quite low. The number of active corona cases at Landlag officially stood at 396,512 on Monday, meaning the value has more than doubled in the last ten days. New infections within 24 hours came in as 22,253. Since Sunday alone, 233 people have died in relation to Covid-19.
New daily highs in France and Spain above 52,000
France’s Health Ministry reported 52,518 new infections Monday night, more than ever in a day. In addition, another 416 deaths were recorded. For the first time since the first wave in early May, more than 3,700 Covid patients must be treated in intensive care units and more than 25,000 overall in hospitals.
Spain also reports an unprecedented number of new infections with 55,019 infections in the last 24 hours. The number of deaths increases by 379, according to data from the Ministry of Health.
For comparison: in Germany, the number of new confirmed cases in 24 hours was 12,097 on Monday morning. Although the numbers announced after the weekends are always well below the values on other days due to delays in reports from health authorities, there was no other Monday as new infections recorded.

Without a turnaround in new corona infections, Austria is heading towards an early overload of the health system, according to Health Minister Rudolf Anschober. Then a critical situation would be expected in the second half of November, Anschober said in Vienna on Monday.

Portugal on the way to a state of emergency

The pandemic is spreading rapidly in Iceland

In the last two weeks, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants was higher than in Germany, but much lower than in the most severely affected countries in Europe, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
To better control the situation, the Icelandic government has issued new restrictions: from Saturday until November 17, the maximum number of participants for the meetings is only ten, sporting events and theatrical performances will be prohibited until then.
