Large-scale operation for the fire department in the Stenzelring industrial area in Wilhelmsburg: Due to a fire in a warehouse, the emergency services are warning residents in the Veddel area about the development of dense smoke. The cardboard boxes and packing material were stored in the approximately 60 by 40 meter room.

According to the fire department, the smoke cloud is moving to the east. Veddel, Harburg, Billbrook, Moorfleet, Wilhelmsburg, Billstedt, Öjendorf, Oststeinbek, Glinde, Neuschönningstedt, and Reinbek are affected. Among other things, firefighters recommend avoiding the affected area and paying attention to police and fire brigade announcements. Windows and doors must be closed, ventilation and air conditioning must be off. Anyone in the car in the area in question should immediately switch the ventilation to recirculation and leave the area.

The smoke moves to the east.

There were significant traffic obstructions around the site. Meanwhile, S-Bahn traffic between Wilhelmsburg and Hammerbrook has been disrupted. Long-distance trains between Hamburg and Hannover were also affected in the morning. In the meantime, the trains should be running again, but there are still individual delays and failures, Deutsche Bahn tweeted.

About 150 emergency services have been on the scene since early Wednesday morning. The operation will likely last into the morning, a spokesman said. No one was injured.
