Why accommodation bans and curfew don’t make sense

meIn the coming days and weeks, it will not only be decided in Germany’s large cities and metropolitan areas how the corona infection figures will develop. Currently, there are many signs that loss of control is imminent in many places. But it will also be decided whether and to what extent the population will continue to support restrictions on public and private life or not.

In the spring, the acceptance of the drastic restrictions on freedom was also so great because the federal government was able to reference the scientific knowledge of several prominent virologists and medical professionals at the time with good reason. Meanwhile, that has changed.

Scientists cannot understand the national accommodation ban for guests staying overnight in risky areas or the overnight curfew in Berlin and Bremen. In any case, the question is whether the regulations will stand up in court. Because travel within Germany has not yet increased the infection rate.

Recognize sources of infection more carefully

Even in the particularly strict Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania the numerous tourists did not increase infection rates in the summer. The nightly curfew will only result in parties, which were still controllable in public spaces, moving to private rooms.

More carefully than ever, it is now about identifying and isolating sources of infection. This applies to celebrations in both public and private spaces. There is no rational reason to celebrate with many wedding guests this year, the same is true for birthdays or funerals. Big cities must control their rules much more closely and punish violations.
