Meaning: Why is Reformation Day 2020 celebrated?
According to tradition, the monk and theology professor Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberg castle church on October 31, 1517. Luther criticized the view that man can only be redeemed from sin by good works and the payment of indulgences. This had already happened with Jesus’ death on the cross, he argued.
Reform Day: in all federal states it was only a public holiday once
The 95 theses on indulgences that Martin Luther spread in 1517 had lasting consequences: with this, the reform of the church began – the Protestant church emerged alongside the Catholic.
On the 500th anniversary of the event, Reform Day 2017 was exceptionally a national holiday. But the joy of the extra day off lasted in as many federal states as
