Only a fraction of the world’s population is fully vaccinated against Covid-19. However, in individual countries, herd immunity appears to be within reach, as one analysis shows.

More than 31 million people around the world have already been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. That is not even half a percent of the total population. Most doses of the Covid-19 vaccine were administered in only a few countries. The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, recently ruled that this is unfair. Individual industrialized nations are already moving rapidly toward herd immunity. The question that arises more and more is how long it will take before a sufficient number of people around the world are fully vaccinated, also to contain the risk of spreading virus mutations.
