Extravagant scenes Friday night in the ZDF “Today Journal.” As moderator Claus Kleber makes a presentation, a man in protective clothing suddenly appears behind him and holds out his arms. A man’s voice conveys a cryptic message.
I just published another article on tennis. Then Claus Kleber takes over again in the studio and moderates the next contribution: it is the oldest orchestra in the world. But suddenly a person appears in the background. He wears a blue protective suit, mouth and nose protection, goggles and long red rubber gloves. He extends his arms forward towards Claus Kleber and begins to move himself and his arms.
So the Kleber sound becomes quieter and you can hear a man’s voice from outside.
“You have to reduce the tension, first try to take it easy, understand where the problem is. It often comes out of nowhere. You have to learn to deal with it, you grow up with it. A true bus driver doesn’t drop his head and at some point he’s walking up the mountain, “he says, clearly audible to the audience in front of the TV.
When the cryptic message has been delivered and the person in the protective clothing has left the studio, the program continues in stride. The orchestra’s contribution is shown.
What’s behind?
Claus Kleber himself provides a small indication of how the strange scene came about: “Somehow there must have been such strange disturbances in the introduction. We get into the matter. It looks like art, ”says Kleber. And also: “These are some ‘aspects’ that clarify it.”
Just said what done: half an hour after the “Heute-Journal”, the ZDF culture format flashed on the screens. One of the themes was the exhibition “Sender und Receiver” by the German artist Christian Jankowski, responsible for the planned action in the ZDF studio.

At one exhibition, Jankowski shows video footage with which he would like to “temporarily offer so-called system-relevant workers a platform through selected television formats,” the exhibition description reads.

The artist is primarily concerned with making people visible in systemically important professions. That is why he has smuggled it into television shows, interviews and movies on various occasions, all over the world. The texts that you hear in parallel to the person who appears come from those affected by these professional groups.
