2nd round of the DFB Cup
On the second day of the second round of the DFB Cup, there were four games in the night. Two games ended after 90 minutes, the other two games went into overtime.
VfB Stuttgart reached the knockout stages of the DFB Cup with a 1-0 (1-0) victory over Bundesliga rivals SC Freiburg.
Thanks to Kalajdzic’s early goal in the 15th minute, the promoted team won the 42nd game between Swabia and Baden.
Werder Bremen, who won 3-0 (2-0) at Hannover 96, also survived the second round on Wednesday night. Coach Florian Kohfeldt’s team deservedly won in the second round. Theodor Gebre Selassie (30th) and Josh Sargent (32nd) gave Werder an early lead with a double strike the day before Christmas Eve, Jean-Manuel Mbom (60th) made it all clear. Hannover remained pale overall.
Mainz – Bochum
Crisis-ravaged FSV Mainz 05 failed to reach the DFB Cup round of 16 after turbulent days in a penalty shootout thriller, but the other Bundesliga clubs were not naked. While Rheinhessen lost 3-0 on penalties against ambitious second division club VfL Bochum, Werder Bremen, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg advanced to the next round the day before Christmas Eve.
Wehen-Wiesbaden – Regenburg
Jahn Regensburg is also one round behind with a 4-2 win on penalties over third division SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
