Markus H., a co-defendant in the murder trial of Kassel district president Walter Lübcke, is released. H. was no longer “suspected of having punished the aid,” the Frankfurt Higher Regional Court said. Broadcaster HR also reported on the lifting of the arrest warrant.

It was no longer “highly probable” that H. “thought that the murder of Dr. Lübcke by Stephan E. was at least possible,” a statement from the Higher Regional Court said. This assumption was previously based on information provided by Stephan Ernst and Hs’ former partner. The Senate now has “considerable doubts about the accuracy” of Ernst’s information.

In addition, H’s ex-girlfriend had relativized her statements and there were doubts about the credibility of her information in the investigation. Stephan Ernst had admitted to shooting Walter Lübcke in the process. He claims to have forged the plan together with Markus H. and to have been at the crime scene with him. However, there is no evidence of their presence. However, H still has to answer for a firearms crime.

Markus H. has been a known neo-Nazi in Northern Hesse and the security authorities for more than 25 years. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office assumed that he was the intellectual arsonist and provided psychological help to the murder. H. should have agitated and instigated Ernst, until he went to the Lübcke family terrace at Wolfhagen-Istha in Hesse on the night of June 2, 2019 and shot the Kassel district president from a close range.
