Vorarlberg, Brittany, Lisbon: many new risk areas

In the evening, the federal government declared other European regions to be corona risk areas. This can be seen in the Robert Koch Institute’s updated list.

Vorarlberg, Brittany, Lisbon: numerous new risk areas identified

The Austrian state of Vorarlberg, the Portuguese capital Lisbon, as well as Brittany, Normandy and the Center-Val-de-Loire region in France are affected. With the exception of two border regions, the Czech Republic is now also a risk area (more on the Czech Republic later in the article). There were also regions in Denmark (Hovedstaden and Bornholm), Ireland (Dublin), Slovenia, the Netherlands, Croatia, Romania and Hungary. In total, 14 of the 27 EU member states are now fully or partially designated as corona risk areas.

Travelers from risk areas should be screened

The Ministry of Foreign Relations warns against unnecessary tourist trips to risk areas. Travelers returning from risk areas must undergo a corona test 48 hours before or after entering the country. The travel warning is not a ban, but it is intended to have a significant deterrent effect. However, it also has a silver lining for consumers: it allows travelers to cancel reservations for free.

New risk zone also outside Europe

Outside of Europe, the United Arab Emirates have been added. Several islands in the Caribbean, including Cuba, as well as the Seychelles and Sri Lanka are no longer on the list.

The Czech Republic shows understanding

Czech Foreign Minister Tomas Petricek said in the evening that Germany’s decision was “understandable” in light of Corona’s figures in his country. In the negotiations with Berlin, exceptions were achieved for commuters, truck drivers and travelers in transit. “We continue to negotiate on so-called small border traffic, that is, possible exceptions for people who live directly at the border,” said the Social Democrat.

Thousands of travelers come from the Czech Republic

It is estimated that around 37,000 Czech travelers work in Germany, mainly in the catering and health sectors.

In Bavaria, the so-called entry quarantine regulation states that travelers from abroad do not have to be quarantined if they do not regularly stay abroad for more than 48 hours and do not show any symptoms. It is valid until October 3.

Risk area of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants

Classification as a risk zone usually occurs if the number of new corona infections exceeds the mark of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. Until now, there may be other reasons for the travel warning, such as entry bans or lack of hygiene measures.
