Volker Wissing: the new FDP secretary general is the traffic light man

After a few minutes it becomes clear why Volker Wissing chose this date to accompany a portrait. The Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Finance is visiting Kalenborn-Schänen, a town of 400 inhabitants in Vulkaneifel. This is where Premosys GmbH, which manufactures optoelectronic measuring systems, is headquartered and founder Matthias Kuhl’s conference becomes an advertising block for Mainz guests.

“Yes, Dr. Wissing, we owe it to you,” says Kuhl and throws a diagram on the wall with the projector. On it you can see a grapevine and a plowshare. Two years ago, says the head of the company, a winery contacted him with a special request: if the sensors of his company would be able to control a plowshare in such a way as to eliminate weeds near the vine without damaging the plant. Of course, the company was able to do it.

The recommendation for the company in Vulkaneifel came from Wissing. The Finance Minister had met the winery’s owner on a trip to San Francisco. He told her about his problem and Wissing advised him to contact Premosys GmbH. But that’s not the only reason Kuhl says, “Mr. Wissing does a very good job.”
