Many customers of the mobile operator Vodafone had no network on Monday afternoon; the reason was a malfunction. There were also problems with the emergency call. The company announced that the fault has now been resolved.

As confirmed by a Vodafone spokesperson from our on-demand editorial team, the outage affected more than 100,000 customers across Germany.

A website for the Düsseldorf company said Monday afternoon that there were “massive restrictions on the use of mobile data and 2G / 3G / 4G telephony.” In the early afternoon, the warning app “Nina” was used to report that network outages caused problems with the emergency number “112”.

The outage also had an impact on the accessibility of some connections within the Düsseldorf city administration. Some phone numbers could not be located, including connections that are redirected to home office workstations.

The reason for the interruption was the failure of a central control element for the Vodafone locations in Munich, Frankfurt and Berlin. Vodafone announced this in the evening. “As a result, the affected customers were unable to log into the network and not establish data connections,” said a spokesperson for our editorial team. Starting at 3:30 p.m., customers joined the network in a controlled manner. “Traffic has returned to normal since 5 pm,” he said.

According to Vodafone, elements of the network will be closely monitored next night and Tuesday. The reports came from almost every major city and region in Germany, from Berlin via Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, Munich, Stuttgart or Cologne to Vodafone’s headquarters in Düsseldorf.
