Vodafone malfunction in the mobile phone network throughout Germany partially resolved

At Vodafone there were massive disruptions to the cell phone network from early afternoon. The bug has now been fixed, says Vodafone. Many users still complain about problems.

Since around 2 pm, many Vodafone users have only been able to use their mobile phones to take photos: neither telephony nor mobile data could be used in many places via the mobile phone provider’s network. Furthermore, the failures were not limited regionally, but occurred throughout Germany.

In the Vodafone forum, the company reported major flaws in its own service: There are “supra-regional restrictions on mobile data and 2G / 3G / 4G telephony”, “My Vodafone on the web” and the MeinVodafone application.

Vodafone did not provide details on the cause or duration of the malfunction. “As soon as we have news, we will contact you again,” he said. In the evening, Vodafone explained that the problem had been resolved and services were up and running again. But that doesn’t seem to be the case for all users. Even in the late afternoon, several thousand problem reports were received on the allestören.de portal. Users comment that they still cannot make calls or use their mobile data.

Vodafone does not mention the reason for the interruption

Vodafone did not give a reason for the massive outage: When asked in the afternoon at Vodafone, a spokesperson confirmed the issue and claimed the cause was unclear. At the time, Vodafone certainly knew of at least 100,000 customers that were affected.

However, the actual number is likely to be significantly higher: the reporting portal allestören.de received more than 120,000 complaints at 2:37 PM. This number only refers to users who actually reported on allestören.de. Therefore, the number of affected could be much higher. By 9:50 p.m., the number of complaints had dropped significantly, but still exceeded 4,000.
