2nd league, matchday 14
VfL struggled with Darmstadt 98 for a long time, but then a furious final phase developed, with a happy result for Bochum. Heidenheim’s streak also continues against Nuremberg.
Funny game in Bochum! VfL is at least temporarily new second in the second division through a contested 2: 1 (0: 0) against SV Darmstadt 98. Coach Thomas Reis’s team had a hard time with the guests, but then three goals were scored in three minutes. Tobias Kempe with an own goal (82nd) and Milos Pantovic (84th) scored for VfL, Kempe had put Darmstadt ahead shortly before (80th).
A varied game was played at the Castroper Strasse stadium, but chances against both goals were rare for long periods. Bochum’s Danny Blum had the best chance of the first half in the eighth minute, but after a failed defensive action, he didn’t hit the ball properly and clearly missed the goal.
However, after the break, the guests appeared dangerously in front of VfL’s goal and cheered too early. After a great chance from Kempe, Serdar Dursun hit the net on the next corner kick but was offside. It was a game at eye level, until the events took place in the final phase.
1. FC Heidenheim – 1. FC Nuremberg
1. FC Nürnberg also failed to stop 1. FC Heidenheim’s impressive home series. In the first match of the new year, the “Club” lost 2-0 (0-1) against the Suevi and missed an important step towards promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. Denis Thomalla (45º + 1 minute) and Patrick Mainka (76º) scored with their goals for the victory of Heidenheim, who have been without defeat for 15 months in their own stadium.
In the 90th minute, FCN coach Robert Klauß saw the red card after kicking a bottle of water out of frustration at the referee’s decision. Shortly before, the supposed goal of Adam Zrelak (88th) did not materialize due to the offside position of Manuel Schäffler.
Würzburger Kickers – Karlsruher SC
The proclaimed new tail start of the Würzburger Kicker table failed earlier in the year against Karlsruher SC. The relegated climber lost 2: 4 (1: 3) in his own stadium. The performance of coach Bernhard Trares’ team was neither ahead nor behind. Four points after 13 games are too few not to have to return directly to the third division.
Benjamin Goller (12th minute), outstanding double scorer Marvin Wanitzek (28/44) and Jérôme Gondorf (48) all scored for KSC. Interestingly enough, the guests even scored all six goals: Wanitzek (32nd) and Christoph Kobald (67th) each unhappily scored their own net. KSC brought away success even after Dirk Carlson’s (58th) yellow-red card safely in time.
