After six years, the four-time world champion from Heppenheim will leave Scuderia after both sides have been unable to agree to an extension of the contract. The racing team’s future hope has already been determined.
DFour-time world champion Sebastian Vettel is supposed to leave the Ferrari Formula 1 team at the end of the year, according to media reports. This was reported by “Bild”, “Auto, Motor und Sport” and “Motorsport-Total.com” on Tuesday night. Consequently, the 32-year-old Heppenheim player will not renew his contract with Scuderia and will leave the Italians after six years. Neither side could agree to a new contract, the move could be made public Tuesday. At first there was no confirmation.
Until now, Vettel has been chasing his dream of becoming a world champion with Ferrari like Michael Schumacher. In the previous season, he finished in disappointing fifth place in the World Cup and had to again defeat the powerful Mercedes. His would-be stable rival Charles Leclerc also landed in front of him. Monegasse, 22, signed a working document that was valid until the end of 2024 before Christmas 2019. Leclerc is the team’s great hope for the future, while Vettel is said to have only been offered a contract for other year.
Vettel had recently said in a video conference that there was no deadline for an extension. “Whatever the deal, the team and I will have to feel comfortable with him,” said the German, who had been unable to build on his successes with Red Bull since arriving at Ferrari for the 2015 season. He had won all four of his titles in the World Cup between 2010 and 2013 with the then almost invincible Red Bull racing team. This year Vettel was not on the track at all. Due to the corona virus pandemic, all planned races have been postponed or canceled. The start of the Formula 1 season is scheduled for July 5 in Austria.
