US: FBI chief sees Biden as target of Russian disinformation campaign

According to the FBI, Russia is interfering in the US presidential campaign at the expense of Democratic candidate Joe Biden.

Moscow is launching a steady stream of misinformation against President Donald Trump’s challenger, US Federal Police Director Christopher Wray said at a congressional committee hearing in Washington on Thursday. Furthermore, what Moscow perceives as an anti-Russian establishment in the United States should be undermined. Wray said his main concern was that the “constant drumming of disinformation” could affect the confidence of Americans in the outcome of the election.

The statement by the FBI director follows a warning from the US government’s National Counterespionage Center in early August that Russia, China and Iran are trying to interfere in the November 3 elections. Several investigations by the US secret services have shown that Russia took action in favor of Trump in the 2016 presidential elections. Trump has long been outraged by this representation, Moscow rejects the accusations.
