Marcia Fudge to become United States Secretary of Housing, Tom Vilsack Secretary of Agriculture
Wednesday, December 9, 12:27 am: According to various US media, Congresswoman Marcia Fudge will become Minister of Housing and Urban Development in Joe Biden’s cabinet. The Democrat has been a member of the House of Representatives of the US state of Ohio since 2008.

Trump camp loses Supreme Court election battle

Pennsylvania had already certified the election result on November 23. The applicants wanted the certification revoked. State attorneys had warned the Supreme Court of such a “dramatic” move. They argued: “No court has issued an order invalidating the governor’s confirmation of the results of a presidential election.”
Texas goes to Supreme Court in Trump election dispute
Tuesday, December 8, 6:30 pm: In the United States, Donald Trump’s camp is making another attempt to challenge the Supreme Court election after dozens of lawsuits dismissed. Texas State Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing four other states.

Even before the election, Trump had set out to quickly fill a vacant Supreme Court seat with conservative attorney Amy Coney Barrett, and touched on a possible dispute over the election outcome. Conservatives now dominate the court with a majority of six to three votes.
Biden appoints his defense minister
Tuesday, December 8, 2:54 am: US President-elect Joe Biden wants to fill more key positions with confidants from his time as vice president under former President Barack Obama. Biden has decided to appoint retired General Lloyd Austin as Secretary of Defense, according to various US media.
Austin, 67, was most recently commander of the US Forces in the Middle East (Centcom) from 2013 until his retirement in 2016 and is thus familiar with today’s hot spots. Centcom is responsible for US operations in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, among others. At the beginning of his career of more than 40 years in the US military, Austin was initially deployed to Germany, according to Centcom.
He would be the first African-American Secretary of Defense in the history of the United States. Austin is considered controversial in some progressive groups, however, as he is on the board of arms manufacturer Raytheon Technologies. Biden had previously announced that he would appoint his new defense minister on Friday.
Biden probably wants Xavier Becerra as health minister
Monday, December 7, 8:05 am: President-elect Joe Biden has apparently chosen Xavier Becerra as his candidate for the post of Minister of Health. This is reported by several US media. California Attorney General Becerra is a strong supporter of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, introduced under President Barack Obama.
Should Becerra be confirmed as Minister of Health by the United States Senate, he would take the lead in the fight against the corona pandemic, which has so far killed more than 280,000 people in the United States. He would be responsible for a ministry with some 80,000 employees and a budget of more than a trillion dollars.
The 62-year-old would be the first Latino to head the Ministry of Health. His mother was born in Jalisco, Mexico. After marrying Becerra’s father, she emigrated to the United States. In addition to fighting pandemics in general, it would be responsible for vaccines and drugs, cutting-edge medical research, and health insurance for more than 130 million Americans.
Under President Donald Trump, the ministry had lost its influence in the Corona crisis. The first warnings from the ministry’s health experts contrasted with Trump’s public assurances that the virus was under control, sparking financial market turmoil. Trump has repeatedly accused ministry scientists of being politically motivated.
As attorney general, Becerra led a coalition of Democratic states against recent attempts by the Donald Trump administration to topple Obamacare. Without the law, more than 23 million people would be left without insurance, in addition to millions with previous illnesses who could be denied insurance. A Supreme Court ruling is expected in 2021.
Becerra sat in the California House of Representatives until his inauguration as attorney general in 2017. During this time he participated in the passage of the law by the United States Congress in 2009 and 2010. At that time, he told the media that his main motivation was tens of thousands of uninsured Americans in his constituency. Overseeing the crown’s fight against the pandemic would be the biggest task in Becerra’s political career to date.
