US Election: Election is decided in these undecided states

Who will move into the White House usually decides in a dozen of the 50 US states: the so-called swing states. In these highly competitive states, sometimes Republicans win, sometimes Democrats. What do the polls say about presidential candidates Donald Trump and Joe Biden?

It could get tight here

Florida: With 29 voters, Florida is one of the top contested states. In 2016, Trump just won there. Recent polls point to head-to-head races in the state on the southeast coast of the United States. However, Biden is a little ahead in most polls. Vote-by-mail documents can be counted days before elections in Florida. Therefore, the result is likely to be announced in time. Polling stations are open from 1pm German time until 2am on Wednesday morning.

Pennsylvania: In the 2016 election, Trump only narrowly prevailed in Pennsylvania. The polls currently give Biden a shot at securing the 20th electorate, but it could be tough and Trump could also emerge as the winner. Voting by mail documents can only be recorded and counted on Election Day. Therefore, it is likely that there will be a delay in the announcement of the results. Polling stations are also open from 1:00 p.m. German time.

Arizona: The southwestern state has long been considered a safe bastion for Republicans. In 2016, Trump was able to secure all eleven Arizona electorates. Polls there recently saw Biden in the lead. Vote-by-mail documents can be counted prior to the election. Polling stations are open from 3pm German time.

Wisconsin: The northeastern state of Wisconsin has ten electors to assign. In 2016, Trump was able to prevail there narrowly, this year Biden is the favorite. Vote-by-mail documents can only be recorded and counted on Election Day, so final results are likely to be delayed. Polling stations are open from 2pm German time.

Ohio: This state has 18 voters to assign. In Ohio there is a head-to-head race between Trump and Biden. Trump won the state very convincingly in 2016. Vote-by-mail documents can be registered before Election Day. Polling stations are open from 12.30 pm German time.

Minnesota: In 2016, Democrat Hillary Clinton in Minnesota was able to secure ten votes from the electorate by a narrow margin. Polls now see Biden clearly leading the way in the Canadian border state. The registration of vote-by-mail documents begins before the election, counting only on the day of the election. Polling stations are open from 2pm German time.

Michigan: Michigan’s 16th electorate went to Trump in 2016 with a very small majority. The polls clearly see Biden in the lead in this election. Processing of vote-by-mail documents begins shortly before the election, but the count does not begin until Election Day, so those responsible wait for a delay. Polling stations are open from 1:00 p.m. German time.

Iowa: In 2016, Trump was able to insure all six Iowa state voters in the Midwest by a wide margin. According to polls, there is now a head-to-head race between the Republican and Democrat Biden. Polling stations are open from 2pm German time.

North Carolina: The state of North Carolina on the east coast has 15 voters. In 2016, Trump was able to prevail there by a good three percentage points. Polls now predict a close race, with Biden leading the way. Voting-by-mail documents can be partially evaluated before the election, polling stations are open from 12.30 pm

Georgia: Trump was able to secure the votes of all 16 voters in the southeastern state of Georgia in 2016 by a good margin. Polls are now a head-to-head race. Voting by mail documents are recorded upon receipt and counted on Election Day. Polling stations are open from 1:00 p.m. German time.

Nevada: The votes of the six electorates of the western state of Nevada went to Clinton in 2016 with a good two percentage points. Polls now predict a narrow victory for Biden. Polling stations are open from 4 pm German time.

Texas: The populous southern state of Texas with 38 voters has been going Republican for decades and does not consider itself an indecisive state. Trump was nine percentage points ahead of Clinton in 2016. Current polls see Trump again in the lead, but only to a very limited extent. Sometimes vote-by-mail documents can be processed prior to the election. Polling stations are open from 2pm German time.
