Before the US election, President Trump tries harder to win over black voters. Traditionally, they vote democratically. Trump’s promise of three million jobs and better access to education should convince them now.
US President Donald Trump campaigned for black voters at a campaign event in Atlanta. There he presented his so-called “Platinum Plan”. In it, he promised black Americans three million new jobs, 500,000 new businesses, and better access to education and training. Traditionally, the majority of black voters support the Democrats.
Trump wants to make June 16 a holiday
In his speech, Trump said he did more for blacks in his tenure than his Democratic challenger Joe Biden in his decades-long political career. “Racial justice begins with Joe Biden’s withdrawal from public life,” Trump said. “I will always put Americans first, and that includes, very, very important, black Americans.”
Trump criticized the Black Lives Matter movement, which plays a central role in protests against police violence and racism. He pursues “extremely socialist” goals.
The president also announced plans to make June 19th a holiday. Remembrance Day commemorates liberation from slavery and has received special attention in recent months as part of the Black Lives Matter movement. More recently, Trump drew the ire of many black Americans when he wanted to run his first major election campaign on Memorial Day.
Ku Klux Klan and Antifa as terrorist organizations
In the event of his election victory, Trump says he will also classify the racist Ku Klux Klan and the leftist Antifa as terrorist organizations.
The Ku Klux Klan was founded in 1865 and, according to estimates, now numbers several thousand members in various independent groups in the United States. He contacts right-wing extremists abroad; there is also a branch in Germany. The secret society is known for lynchings, especially against blacks, and for other acts of violence.
A classification of Antifa as a terrorist group that Trump had already brought into play more frequently in the past. However, Antifa does not have members or a central organizational or management structure. The partisans of the current left or the radical left scene are united by an anti-fascist ideology. It is therefore questionable how a ban would actually apply.
