US election: another Trump defeat in court

One complaint after another and one defeat after another. The Pennsylvania Court of Appeals also sees no evidence of voter fraud. Trump’s chances of proving this are getting smaller and smaller.

The current president of the United States, Donald Trump, suffered another defeat in the challenge of the electoral results. A federal appeals court in the state of Pennsylvania dismissed Trump’s claim as unfounded. Calling an election unfair does not make the election unfair, wrote Judge Stephanos Bibas. “The lawsuits require specific allegations and then evidence. Here we have neither nor ”.

Jenna Ellis, an attorney for Trump, criticized the decision on Twitter and again spoke of electoral fraud: “The activist machinery of the Pennsylvania judiciary continues to cover up massive accusations of fraud.” Now they want to call the Washington Supreme Court, he continued.

All three appeals court judges had been nominated by Republicans, Bibas even nominated by Trump himself. His decision follows a harsh judgment by a lower court, also approved by a Republican.

Almost no chance of success

Trump does not admit defeat even more than three weeks after the election and continues to claim that there has been massive fraud. However, so far it has not provided any reliable evidence for this. Various courts thwarted numerous lawsuits by Trump and his Republican allies, including in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada. Even with an appeal to the Supreme Court, in which six of the nine justices are considered conservatives, Trump is unlikely to be successful given the facts.

The most recent lawsuit in Pennsylvania sought to invalidate millions of postal votes on allegations of fraud. However, the appeals court, like the lower court, said last week that Trump’s lawyers had not provided “any clear evidence” of the alleged massive fraud.

Additionally, Democrat Joe Biden won the state election by about 81,000 votes, which is why the alleged individual cases would not play a role, the appeals court said. And even if the 20 voters in Pennsylvania got Trump in the end, he couldn’t catch up with Biden. According to data provider Edison Research, the Democrat is ahead with 306 votes to 232.

Democrats lose seat in House of Representatives

But the Democrats also suffered defeats in this election. Biden’s party lost another seat in the House of Representatives. With David Valadao’s victory in a California district, Republicans further narrowed the gap with Democrats, whose seats have since fallen from 232 to 221. With fewer than 219 terms, they would lose the majority.
