In an online conference on Friday, the city and security authorities announced that the demonstration would not take place on Augustusplatz, as initially announced, but on the grounds of the New Fair.

The number of participants was corrected from 20,000 to 16,000 (reported TAG24).

Two urgent requests from the organizers, which went against the conditions, were annulled by the administrative court on Friday.

The law enforcement office has also announced new requirements, including the use of mouth and nose protection.

The police will check this during the demonstration. The mayor of Leipzig had already announced that the rally would be dissolved if it was not observed (TAG24 reported).

In addition to the “lateral thinking” demonstration, there have been 26 other demonstrations in the center of Leipzig, including seven counter-protests. It is not yet clear if and to what extent there will be traffic restrictions.

One day before the planned big demonstration of the “lateral thinking” initiative, around 200 people gathered in Leipzig’s market square on Friday evening. According to the police, they registered a spontaneous demonstration in which they protested against the state’s crown measures.

The participants did not wear masks and did not maintain the minimum distance. A police spokesman said video recordings were made and a complaint was filed against the leader of the meeting.

According to the police, around 100 people gathered for a counter-protest within earshot.

Police were already in town with a large number on Friday night.

Both on Twitter and Telegram, the organizer is currently spreading the information that the decision to move the demonstration to the New Fair has been annulled.
