Until now, there has been a mandatory 14-day quarantine for those returning from risk areas.

What are the exceptions?

The regulation does not apply to people who only come to Germany to pass. You have to leave Germany as soon as possible. Even those who have been in a risk zone for less than 24 hours as part of border traffic with neighboring countries are not covered by the quarantine obligation.

Travelers, as well as doctors, nurses, medical support staff and 24-hour caregivers can also stay longer without quarantine. The exception also applies when visiting close relatives and a spouse or partner who does not belong to the same household, and if there is joint custody.

The exceptions also apply to people who transport goods by road, rail, ship or plane, as well as high-ranking members of the diplomatic and consular services, representatives of the people and governments.
