From a medical standpoint, there was probably little against Donald Trump leaving the hospital and returning to the White House. Unlike many Americans who have less money and less luck, the president is not just a hassle who receives two aspirin in the emergency room and is sent home no matter how bad he is.
Of course, the reverse is true: The same doctors who monitored and treated Trump at Walter Reed Army Medical Center will now continue to treat him at his residence. Where the president receives the medications that are supposed to help him with his corona infection is of secondary importance. And if your condition suddenly dramatically worsens, it will only take you a few minutes by helicopter to get back to the hospital.
But Trump’s decision to leave the military hospital had little to do with drugs. The triumphant tone from your tweet, in which he announced his return home, suggests that it was mainly about politics, more precisely: electoral campaigns.
See I crushed that thing
Trump plays the strongman, the conqueror of the crown, the victorious hero in the fight against the virus. His message is: Look, I smashed that thing while Biden hides behind his mask.
That you are endangering your own employees and employees with this theater, what the heck. “Don’t be afraid of Covid-19,” Trump wrote. “I feel better than 20 years ago.” If the president were capable of even a modicum of reflection, humility and empathy, he would have to see for himself how absurd it sounds.
The virus killed more than 210,000 of his compatriots. And shouldn’t Americans be afraid? What about the afflicted of the dead? Hundreds of thousands of parents, children, and siblings who have lost a loved one. The president obviously doesn’t care how they are. The main thing is that it is okay. Donald Trump has always been like this. The coronavirus has not changed its unpleasantness.
Americans can at least do something about him being their president on November 3.
