The prosecution has announced more details about the hostage drama in Bavaria, in which two people were killed on Tuesday. Investigations against the perpetrator were already underway.

During the dramatic operation in Tegernsee, a police officer shot a 46-year-old man on Tuesday night. Police attempt to save the man’s 25-year-old partner failed: The woman who was stabbed by her partner was killed on the spot, police said Wednesday. The president of the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters, Robert Kopp, spoke of a very complex event in which there are still many details to be clarified.

A neighbor had alerted the police in the afternoon due to a family dispute. Immediately after his arrival, police officers were able to contact the 46-year-old Italian through a closed door. However, he refused to open the door and asked to speak to his adult son. According to the police, he promised to open the door later.

Man runs away with his partner on the balcony

After the son arrived an hour later, the two had a brief conversation in Italian. Instead of opening the apartment, the man became aggressive and the woman’s screams were also heard. Then the police broke down the apartment door. The man and woman then fled to the neighboring apartment via a balcony.

When the police also broke into this apartment, the 46-year-old man stopped a firecracker, causing a lot of smoke. The man did not listen to repeated requests for the knife to be lowered. He also ignored police threats to shoot if necessary.

The policeman warns the man several times

According to Attorney General Hajo Tacke, the police filmed the operation with a body camera. The recordings show how a police officer repeatedly warned the 46-year-old man with the words “put down the knife, otherwise I have to shoot,” after which the policeman fired the fatal shot. According to a preliminary assessment, the shot was emergency aid, Tacke said. Therefore, the agent is not listed as a suspect.

According to police, the 46-year-old had no criminal record. However, there was an ongoing investigation into a previous case of domestic violence.
