Currently, A2 drivers need a lot of patience on the state border between Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg. According to the police, a truck crashed into the intermediate barrier between Ziesar and Wollin during the night. The driver could only recover dead. The causes of the accident and death are not clear so far. Autobahn 2 is closed in both directions. Therefore, drivers heading to Hannover and Berlin must plan much longer. There are also long traffic jams on the detour routes.

Many health authorities in Saxony-Anhalt have received reinforcements from the Bundeswehr due to the increasing number of corona infections. As announced by a spokesperson for MDR SACHSEN-ANHALT, around 56 soldiers are currently supporting the authorities in the country. They are in use in 14 cities and regions. The Bundeswehr provides up to 15,000 emergency services across Germany to help trace chains of infections and tests.

In the race to decide the European Capital of Culture 2025, the international jury will give its recommendation on Wednesday. Of the original eight German applicants, five are still in the running: Magdeburg, Chemnitz, Hannover, Hildesheim, and Nuremberg. The decision of a city jury forms the basis for the final decision of the German Conference of Ministers of Education. This should drop by the end of the year.
